Our mission is to Redefine Church
In all honesty, this is our secondary mission. Our first and primary mission is the same as every church on the planet: the Great Commission of making disciples. Redefining church closely follows our first mission, and here’s why.
For many people, church is simply a religious activity. There’s no depth or real relationship - it’s just something they do. They go once a week or every other week, drop their kids off in their classrooms, sit through an hour long service, and then walk right back out the door. Others are a little more involved. They tithe, serve at a weekend service, and even attend a small group. Adding in a 10 minute devotional time in the morning, the average core church member has about 4 hours a week devoted to the church, yet it is normal to see little to no life change.
Don’t get us wrong. We believe that Christ has done amazing things through His church today and will continue to do so. We just started asking the question, “What if there’s more to church?” What if there’s more to Christianity than going to church once a week and reading your Bible when you remember to (or when you finally feel guilty enough to dust it off)?
We believe there is.
The further we dig into scripture, the more questions we have…
What if we aren’t supposed to be “culturally relevant,” but countercultural?
What if the church actually looked different than the world around it? What if depression, anxiety, and divorce were not the norm? What if a need couldn’t be found in the church? What if we didn’t need a multi-million dollar budget, a building, and a large staff to reach people? What if the church didn’t require more of man’s wisdom, but less of it? What if instead of using talented worship leaders and celebrity pastors to attract people, we just used the Gospel? What if we were so deeply in love with one another that the world took notice? What if we actually devoted our lives to our Savior?
What if all we really need is more of Jesus?
We believe that’s the case.
We want to be a church that reflects what Jesus and the apostles established over 2,000 years ago!
To do this we have to get our preconceived ideas out of the way and take a fresh look at what the Bible has to say.
Church is not a building.
Church is not a service you go to on Sunday.
Church is not a place you “serve.”
Church is us. It’s you and me.
The church we see in the New Testament is characterized as a loving family devoted to scripture, driven by eternity, gathering regularly, giving generously, and making disciples.
The only way we see a return to this church is by redefining what the church is. Re-establish Jesus as the foundation. Not membership classes, new programs, eloquent communicators, or talented worship leaders. Just Jesus.
That’s why our mission is to redefine church.
Our Vision
Our vision is truly destined to fail without divine intervention, which is the way we believe it should be. Over the next 7 years, we want to fill 7,000 homes, 7 arenas, and give $700,000,000.
7 Years
7 Arenas
7,000 Homes
700,000,000 Dollars
Let’s break that down. We want to see people meeting in 7,000+ homes in 7 years (that’s about 100,000 people). We want to have an annual gathering of all those homes across the country and in 7 years, fill 7 arenas to celebrate what God has done. Finally, we want to come together and give $700,000,000 (that’s seven hundred million dollars) back to people in our first 7 years.
